Haložani

Hommage to Stojan Kerbler

Haložani is a tribute to vineyard workers from the Haloze region of Slovenia. Each transparent wine bottle holds a miniature world—cuttings from local vines, natural soil, and silhouettes of working figures, the Haložani, printed from archival photographs by Slovenian photographer Stojan Kerbler.

The installation evokes the harsh beauty of rural survival shaped by labor and inherited myths. In Haloze, where wine remains the only real industry, a local legend claims that wine was once given to children to calm them.

Through this bottled landscape, the work blurs the line between care and control, survival and intoxication, and labor as emotional inheritance.
